Pipes Canyon lies at the heart of the high desert and 4,520 feet above sea level. Early inhabitants included the Serrano, Chemehuevi and Shoshoneans who lived to the east of here. In the foreground at right a Jucca cactus with rare Joshua trees scattered towards the valley.An abundance of soft groundwater favoured the original inhabitants as well as an assortment of junipers, manzanita, catsclaw, creosote (greasewood), desert willow, wild flowers and cacti.
