Though
it is protected by Belgian`s heritage laws, this 16th century stable
in Corsendonck near Retie in the northeast of the country is still being used for the storage of anything that a modern farm throws up. Nearby, the Corsendonck monestary established in the 13th century, reclaimed much of this area from it's original swamp and marshlands. The monks cultivated the land. After the French revolution, it was claimed by the local aristocracy who in turn rented out pockets to small farmers for corn, sheep and cattle. |
